August 2025 is bringing several financial changes that could impact your monthly expenses. From credit card policies to UPI rules and LPG prices, six major updates are expected to come into effect from the 1st of August. If you rely on digital payments, bank services, or gas cylinders, it’s time to take note — because some of these changes might tighten your budget.
Rule Changes from August 1
Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s changing:
SBI Credit Card Insurance Cover Ends
If you’re an SBI credit card holder, especially if you own co-branded cards linked with UCO Bank, Central Bank, PSB, Karur Vysya Bank, or Allahabad Bank, there’s important news.
Starting August 11, 2025, SBI will withdraw the complimentary air accident insurance cover that was earlier available on selected ELITE and PRIME credit cards. This insurance covered ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore, and its removal means reduced protection for many travelers and cardholders.
Tip: Check your card’s benefits in your mobile banking app or contact customer support to confirm if this affects you.
Possible Change in LPG Prices
On July 1, commercial LPG cylinder prices were cut by ₹60. Now, consumers are hopeful for a price reduction in domestic LPG cylinders starting August 1.
In recent months, the price of commercial cylinders has been revised multiple times, while domestic LPG rates have mostly remained the same. A change could bring relief to household budgets — or disappointment if prices rise instead.
Big UPI Rules Update – Daily Limits Introduced
From August 1, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is implementing new rules to streamline digital payments and reduce server load. These changes affect users of PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and other UPI platforms:
Balance check limit: Max 50 times per day
Bank account lookup: Max 25 times per day (linked to mobile number)
AutoPay slots for subscriptions (like Netflix/MF SIPs): Only 3 slots – before 10 AM, 1–5 PM, and after 9:30 PM
Failed transaction status check: Only 3 times per day, with 90-second gaps between each
CNG and PNG Prices May Be Revised
Prices of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and PNG (Piped Natural Gas) have remained unchanged since April 9, when Mumbai rates were ₹79.50/kg for CNG and ₹49/unit for PNG.
Considering that these rates are often adjusted monthly, a price revision in August is likely — though no official announcement has been made yet. Any increase could raise daily commuting or cooking expenses.
Bank Holidays in August
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a fresh list of bank holidays every month, which includes festivals, local events, and regional observances. In August, expect banks to remain closed on select dates (besides regular weekends), depending on your location.
ATF (Aviation Fuel) Prices Might Increase
Just like LPG, Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices are also reviewed on the 1st of every month by oil companies. If prices rise this August, it could increase flight ticket fares, directly impacting domestic and international travellers.
Final Words
While not all of these rule changes are confirmed to be negative, they’re worth keeping an eye on. Whether it’s your gas connection, digital wallet, or travel plans, staying informed helps you manage your monthly budget better and avoid unexpected financial shocks.
